RPM Challenge 2022 Take 1 (Livestream)

Another long stream – this is the complete first take for my RPM Challenge 2022 album, Precious Metal-People. The final result sounds (almost) nothing like this, but it was the starting point for both parts of the album.

The album is available for purchase at https://bangsplat.bandcamp.com/album/precious-metal-people – pay what you want! Also available on all the streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, etc.

The title is Precious Metal-People. I was inspired by ancient robots.

The Buddhist scholar Daoxuan (596-667 CE) wrote about “precious metal-people,” humanoid automata that recited sacred texts and cried when the Buddha died.

René Descartes believed that animals and humans were just biological machines, and had a mechanical doll version of his dead daughter, Francine.

Leonardo Da Vinci designed, and may have built, an automaton of a knight in armor.

I’m raising money for the National MS Society in the 2022 MS Walk on April 24th. If you would like to sponsor me you can donate using the link below. All donations go directly to the National MS Society and go to fund research and support for people living with multiple sclerosis.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2012. MS is an autoimmune disease that attacks the myelin sheaths around nerves in the brain and central nervous system causing a wide variety of symptoms, and currently has no cure and only treatments of questionable effectiveness. Last year I raised over $2,000 and was one of the top individual fundraisers in the country. This year I would like to raise even more. If you are able to, please consider helping support me with a donation. Thanks!

RPM Challenge 2022 Set-up (Livestream)

The RPM Challenge has been done for a while now, but I’m behind on editing videos. Here’s me building the instrument I built for the RPM Challenge this year. And playing around with ideas to use for the album. And being derpy at redstone.

The album is done and available for purchase at https://bangsplat.bandcamp.com/album/precious-metal-people – pay what you want! Also available on all the streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, etc.

Bangsplat RPM Challenge 2018 Preview

This was supposed to be a post script to the previous video, but I forgot. And it’s an ad and not entirely a Minecraft video.

The RPM Challenge is an annual event where musicians all around the world write, record, mix, and master an album in the month of February. The last couple years I have used Minecraft to build an instrument and record the album. This year, I had other plans that didn’t quite come together, but I did record the clicking Observer clocks on the wool farm of the Minecraft LAN Party server to use as a bit of percussion.

So I turned the Minecraft sounds into the whole album.

I make weird ambient experimental electronic music under the name Bangsplat, and this year’s RPM Challenge release is called “Bright And Shiny.” It’s dark and a little disturbing and 38 minutes long. If that sounds interesting to you, you can buy it here (you can name your own price – including FREE!)

Also, I’m raising money for this year’s Walk MS on April 22nd, 2018. If you would like to help me raise money to support Multiple Sclerosis research, please visit my Walk MS fundraising page.

Minecraft Maker RPM Challenge 2017 – Starting

It’s February, which means time for RPM Challenge. I’ve been doing this for nine years, and for the last couple, I’ve used Minecraft to make my RPM album.

This year, I’m using Minecraft again, but a little differently. I’m making a resource pack that replaces Minecraft’s sounds with my own, then building a machine to play them.

RPM Challenge 2016 Update #1

And now for something a bit different…

It’s February, which means RPM Challenge time. I’m using Minecraft again this year to record my RPM Challenge 2016 album. Here’s a little update on what I’m doing:

I made a video about what I did last year, and if you want to hear to the finished product, you can do that at my Bandcamp page. You can also buy and download it for any price you like (including free).
